Why volunteer with TYCEN?

TYCEN is an organization that believes strongly in the benefits of volunteering. The founding members have all served in this field for many years and have chosen to start their own volunteer organization in order to devote their time to the promotion of voluntary projects in the local communities of Tanzania. These are a few among the many reasons that we believe you should join one of our workcamps in Tanzania:
  • Participants gain a rewarding experience by learning about new cultures, languages and people
  • Participants are given an opportunity to develop respect for other cultures and simultaneously reflect on their own cultural backgrounds
  • Participants learn new skills including practical, technical and social oriented skills (depending on the project they choose to join)
  • Participants are exposed to new ideas and approaches to voluntary community development work
  • Participants learn how to prevent and resolve conflicts through mutual respect and cooperation in our increasingly globalized world
  • Participants meet many Tanzanians, explore their surroundings with knowledgable guides, and get to know the land and the people in a very meaningful way

How does it work?

A group of up to 10-25 participants accompanied by 1-2 project leaders and a kitchen supervisor spend 2-3 weeks in a host community, living together in a group, taking part in social volunteer work projects, and undertaking excursions to specific sites of interest which support the group, learning about community objectives and deepening their understanding of the host community. These programs are highly structured and the group spends the entire program/project period together.
