TYCEN establishes "SAMBAA SANAA" project to enable mobility of culture professionals and local artists in Tanzania. This mobility helps to improve artist quality, foster new talents, and provide access to art and cultural activities for youth in tackling unemployment hence contributing to the socio-economic development of local Tanzanians.
The project's overall objective is to promote cultural exchange and networks for artists and cultural practitioners within Tanzania. Apart from encouraging intra cultural mobility exchange of artists and culture professionals/ cultural practitioners in Tanzania, the project will also provide art managing, entrepreneurial skills, communication skills, Branding, marketing and event management.
Sambaa Sanaa Project will be in a form of workshops and one art boot camp, where two capacity buildings will be staged and will gather more than 50 art managers and leaders from Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, Mtwara, Morogoro, Mbeya, Dodoma, Arusha, Geita, Shinyanga and Mwanza.
The workshops aims at enhancing the capacity of the participants, improve the way they communicate and allow them to create more connection within and outside their respective regions.
After the workshops, trainees will go back to their organizations and implement what they learnt, while 20 participants (two from each region) will be selected to represent their regions in an art boot camp to be held in Bagamoyo. Participants will also have a chance to participate at the Bagamoyo International cultural festival in Bagamoyo. The boot camp will be used as a learning point and key element of brainstorming and bringing out creativities among the participants.
Participants also will learn how to run cultural organization, how to use the surrounding opportunities in creating more jobs in the culture and creative industry.

BACKGROUND

The project came about from TYCEN's experiences on previous projects implemented with its partners. For many years, art organisations and other arts stakeholders, including TYCEN, were focusing more on promoting international cultural exchange programmes between Tanzania and other nationals in the world of which few artists were able to explore that opportunity.
And for those who were able to participate in those exchanges became much more connected internationally while disconnected nationally as they did not know what was going on in their respectively regions. By focusing more on crossing borders to other countries, most art stakeholders tend to forget there is also a need to have cultural exchange among the regions in Tanzania, In that regard, TYCEN establishes "SAMBAA SANAA” project to enable intra cultural exchange in Tanzania for artists and culture professionals.
This project expects to promote intra cultural exchange for artists and culture practitioner in Tanzania so as to maximize the opportunities and networks for artists and other cultural and creative activities practitioners. The mobility of artists and culture professionals will enhance the capacity of artists in art and entrepreneurial skills management, communication, leadership, Branding, copyrights education, marketing and event management.

JUSTIFICATION

A big number of cultural and creative practitioners lack management and communication skills in their organizations, and lack competences in terms of communicating, marketing and branding their activities which contributes to the failure or varnish of their organization. This project is important as it contributes to the promotion of intra cultural exchange for artists and cultural practitioners in Tanzania and maximizes the opportunities, networks and the overall access to art and cultural activities. In order for them to benefit from their art, they need to strengthen their capacity in the area of art and entrepreneurial skills management, communication, leadership, Branding, copyrights education, marketing and event management. As this will help them to understand how to explore opportunities found within and outside their regions and be able to use their networks to maximize the market and reach of their arts.
