PROJECT DESCRIPTION.

Women empowerment through sport" (WEtS) is a 24 month Capacity Building in the field of Youth project involving 6 organisations from Europe (Bulgaria and Italy), Africa (Kenya and Tanzania) and Asia (Nepal and Philippines). The project will give us the opportunity to develop, test and spread new educational methodologies for young women empowerment through sport with the aim to enhance the capacity of the partner organisations and beyond.
WEtS OBJECTIVES:
  • To share, transfer, improve and develop tools and practices for young women empowerment through sport.
  • To train youth workers and leaders on non formal education and how to use sport to empower young women.
  • To create a web-page, which will serve as a communication platform for all partners even after the end of the project.
  • To develop long-term sustainable trans-continental network of organisations working to empower young women through sport.
  • To research the state of young women empowerment programs in the involved countries and do a general research for all involved countries.
  • To bring social change through Awareness raising activities and Sport event "Women empowerment through sport" on national level in the involved countries, regional and world level.

"Women empowerment through sport" is meant to have a long-term impact on the wide range of stakeholders involved, at individual, organisational and systemic level. The impact will go beyond the project's lifetime and beyond the organisations involved.
In order to reach the objectives, six organisations from six countries from three continents will deliver a set of six events that during the life-cycle of the project in a geographically diverse locations:


1. KICK OFF MEETING
Venue: Sassari (Sardinia) -ITALY with hosting organisation: MineVaganti NGO
Dates: 07-11 March 2018
Participants: 18 (3 per partner country - two project leaders and one youth worker with fewer opportunities)
Aims: Setting the frame of the cooperation, producing project Action Plan, Communication Plan, Dissemination Plan, Financial Plan, Arranging the creation of project Logo and Facebook page; It aims also to set up the sample questionnaire and structure for National Study for the women empowerment through sport tools and programs and settle timetable with concrete deadlines for it for each single partner.
Methodologies: Presentations, Roundtables, Team-Work. The kick-off meeting will start with official presentation of the project, of ERASMUS+ and Key Action 2 Capacity Building in the field of youth, of all partner organisations through a presentation of each made by the leaders of the partners. We will continue with a revision of all mobilities and CB Activities planned; through responsibilities and rights of all partners; revision of Dissemination strategy, financial aspects of the project; concrete planning of intellectual outputs; etc.


2. TRAINING COURSE "SPORT - THE POWER OF WOMEN EMPOWERMENT"
Venue: Nairobi (Kenya) with Hosting Organisation: Neema Community Based Organisation
Dates: 25 June -01 July 2018
Participants: 24 (4 youth workers and youth leaders per partner organisation). Equal number of female and male participants will be involved.
Aim: The training aims to train and equip youth workers and youth leaders working directly with young disadvantaged women in deprived rural and urban areas with essential tools, methods and skills on how to use the methodology Education Through Sport (ETS) in order to promote women empowerment in their area. Equal number of female and male participants will be involved.
Objectives:
  • To discuss the situation of girls and women all over Europe and Asia, especially in terms of social involvement.
  • To share good practices related to ensuring gender equality
  • To combat stereotypes related to the role of women in society To understand the causes of gender inequality as well as the consequences deriving from it
  • To understand the principles of Education through Sport methodology
  • To generate new Women empowerment through sport tools
  • To empower women as it comes to their social involvement

Methodologies: In order to reach the training objectives, the methodology used by the trainers during the TC will be based on the principles of non-formal education (ex. experiential learning, cooperative learning, shared responsibility) in combination with Education through Sport methods. These will be enriched with numerous practical examples. All participants will be involved in the activities as they will be comfortable through energisers or ice breakers. This will help cohesion and inter-cultural sharing work practices. The Training will start with official presentation of the project, presentation of partner organisations and participants. Participants will present preparatory researches what they did back in their home countries regarding young women discrimination and through method "World cafe" they will get into the world of women empowerment, sport and it's potential to bring social change and empower young women, common challenges they face in every country. The training will include 1 day to understand what Non-formal Education is and what Education by, for and through sport are. At the end of each day we will do reflection groups. All participants will receive YouthPass Certificate and will get to know how to integrate the evaluation of 8 key competences development in their regular work.


3. JOB SHADOWING "FOOTBALL FOR EMPOWERMENT"
Venue: Phnom Penh (Philippines) with hosting organisation: Indochina Starfish Foundation - http://indochinastarfish.org . We chose that the youth workers shadow the job of Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF), as it is ranked as the organisation with highest social impact in Southeast Asian region of the world. ISF is member of numerous global networks and every year organises diverse girl's sport tournaments and social programs.
Dates: 24 August-02 September 2018
Participants: 10 (2 youth workers and youth leaders in total per organisation). Each partner will be represented by 2 youth workers. Equal number of female and male participants will be involved.
Aim: This Job Shadowing Mobility is designed to help participants increase their professional awareness of how to work in the field of empowerment of young women through sport activities. Main objective is to contribute to the development of future youth leaders by providing valuable guidance and advice during the Job Shadow experience.
Methodology: All participants will receive YouthPass Certificate. Participants will primarily be presented to the Indochina Starfish Foundation work and it's international work. They will later be involved in the work of the host organisation and observe it's structure, programs that offer and how it uses sport to empower young women in Cambodia. Participants in this Job shadowing will understand how to reach young women from rural areas and how to successfully involve them in long-term programs. Participants will meet with local municipality and be presented on local and national youth programs. Awareness Raising Campaign I on local level - each organisation will implement an awareness raising conference, open event or a seminar (depending on the country context). The events will be organised in May 2018 in each country aiming to reach at least 80 young persons.


4. LEADERS' TRANSNATIONAL MEETING
Venue: Kathmandu (Nepal) with Hosting organisation: Go Sports Nepal
Dates: 06-11 November 2018
Participants: 18 leaders in total. Each partner will be represented by 3 members. Equal number of female and male participants will be involved.
Aims: The aim of the meeting is to work on Mid-term project evaluation, work on Handbook with good practices and first draft of handbook, update information at web-page, work on project Video, plan concrete local events related to the project in each partner country - ex. partners to organise workshops, meetings, awareness rising activities, etc. Partners will present the results of the studies they made on national level and we will initiate the general study from the data they collected.
Methodology: Presentations, group work, brainstorming, round table, world caffe method, SWOT Analysis of project until the moment, etc. * November 2018 each partner organisation will organise a one day Sport Event "Women empowerment through sport" for at least 50 young women from their local area.


5. YOUTH EXCHANGE "YOUTH POWER"
Venue: Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania) with Hosting organisation: Tanzania Youth Cultural Exchange Network
Dates: 10-20 January 2019
Participants: 36 persons. Each partner will be represented by 4 young persons (18-30 years old) from deprived areas facing social obstacles, who are Not in Education, Employment or Training, so called NEETs group. These will be accompanied by 2 group leaders. Equal number of female and male participants will be involved.
Aims: The Youth Exchange aims to develop attitudes in the participants and make them aware of women empowerment importance; discover new cultures, habits and life-styles, mainly through peer-learning and sport activities. The focus of the youth exchange will be on the women empowerment and gender equality, especially in terms of education and social participation through sport activities.
Objectives:
  • Raise awareness about the women empowerment and gender inequalities
  • Break gender and cultural stereotypes
  • Understand the role of sport as a tool for empowering young women

Methodology:
For this event we will involve youth workers, who have participated in the Training in Nairobi (Kenya) - they will deliver sessions on women empowerment, based on the principles of nonformal education (ex. experiential learning, cooperative learning, shared responsibility) in combination with Education through Sport methods. We will highlight the experiential learningprocess. There will be Sport activities in combination with NFE methods (Ice-Breaking games, Team Building Activities, Presentations, Outdoor sessions, original NFE Workshops elaborated in project TC Sport Workshops, Roundtables, Debates, Evaluation Groups, Case Studies (simplified), Team-work for the joint elaboration of NFE tools). No specific level of English knowledge will be required by YE participants, therefore the educational programme will be adapted to participants' learning needs and capacities, giving preference to practical, experiential activities. All participants will develop the 8 key competences of YouthPass and at the end will receive YouthPass Certificates. Participants will acquire a better understanding of the importance of being public-spirited, and a greater tolerance for different cultures, and they will share the same concerns over gender and racial equality, even though they come from different countries. *Awareness Raising Campaign II on local level - each organisation will implement an awareness raising conference, open event or a seminar (depending on the country context). The events will be organised in April-May 2019 in each country aiming to reach at least 80 young persons.

6. CLOSING CONFERENCE "WOMEN EMPOWERMENT THROUGH SPORT"
Venue: Sofia with hosting organisation: CHAMPIONS FACTORY SPORTS CLUB-BULGARIA.
Dates: 21-26 May 2019
Participants: 18 youth workers and youth leaders in total. Each partner will be represented by 2 leaders and one youth worker
Aim: The aim of the Closing Conference is to gather all project results, finalise the Handbook with Best practices, ensure the visibility of the project in all partner organisation and their respective countries, finalise the video of the project, make a final overview and report of all financial and administrative plan, plan concretely follow up of the project, plan new initiatives with the partners, evaluate to what extend the project has reached the objectives, certification to all partners, etc.
Methodology: Group Sessions, Official Certification Ceremony, Presentations, Public Presentation for external guests.
